News about Kaspar:

 Kaspar is, although smaller than Aragorn, the leader in the black pack. As a „control freak“ he must have everything under his view. Very often he stays between his pack and the fence in order to be able to observe the visitor groups. Then he lowers his head and stares at the visitors with his amber colored eyes. I call it „Kaspar’s look“. This look probably means „up to here and no further“ and it’s always successful: assisted by the fence, the visitors never are allowed to enter his kingdom.

Kaspar as a youngster:

Kaspar is our smaller male, the brother of Taya. He has the most complex personality from all showing the most wolf-like behavior.

For him the world is never simple - he always wants to be one step ahead. Whatever happens, he observes everything and only when he can be sure that nothing will bring him out of his balance, he joins in.

No matter what it is, training, experiment or just some offered food from one of the students, he has to be in control about everything. He is very cautious and tricky. He often surprised us with his ideas how to make us impatient.

To work with him requires the most patience from us, because the only way to work with him is to wait till he becomes cooperative. Just one example: He was about 6 month old as he decided not to take part in the experiments any more. But the treats he always gets during experiments were quite tempting, so he entered the test room. But as soon as we wanted to begin with the work, he just lost all his concentration and started to walk around, jump on tables and chairs and tried to ruin the door or the computer. Obviously he did not want to get out; more likely is that he was waiting for our reaction. We did not show any kind of reaction no matter what he figured out to make us angry. We decided to wait for him, till he got bored and started to cooperate with us. We sat for two and a half hours in the room till he was ready to work. Since then he knows, that if he enters the room, he has to concentrate and that, only if he works, he gets treats.

Based on this, he enters the test room slower than the others, but as soon as he comes in, he works just as enthusiastic as the others do.

He is the only one who likes often to play with the dogs; the others just watch him and the dogs.

Kaspar with 6 months of age (October 2008):

Kaspar, nice and attached as he is, is easily frightened by strangers, within, and outside the enclosure. Contact Kaspar only likes if he initiated it, otherwise he rather keeps his distance.

And similar he reacts during working: he is very smart, but only if he feels like working. At the moment he often tests, who has more patience. There is no aggression at all, he only tries if we get tired after a while and give in. If not, he at one point starts working and then he is actually much better than his peers!

The first impression (May 2008):

Being the smaller male in the pack, he decided to concentrate on getting bigger fast - he is eating like crazy, if possible all the time. He has gained the most weight in the first few days.

He also decided to copy his bigger brother in terms of protesting and often gets us running by screaming like a manioc if he is once again hungry!
