Diary entry, 25.05.2010, Helene Möslinger
The Wolf Science Center (WSC) is now about two years old and had already 15 animals, 11 wolves and 5 dogs.
Kaspar, Shima and Aragorn are our oldest ones with two years had once only a few kg and were a part of the formation of the WSC in Grünau im Almtal, also your blind wolf Taya, she died last year.
One year later the WSC moved to the Wildpark in Ernstbrunn. Because of building reasons the animals were put into the kitchen garden from the Fürst von Reuß. This is a wonderful big and with fruit trees overgrown area. Then the next 6 wolves arrived. Tatonga, Nanuk, Geronimo, Yukon, Cherokee und Apache. They grown up in the enclosure next to the older ones and were put together in the fall to build up one pack. In the meanwhile they are splited in two packs one with Kaspar, Shima, Aragorn, Cherokee and Apache and the other one with Nanuk, Tatonga, Yukon and Geronimo. All of them are doing well.
For example just a few days ago I did a paid walk with Nanuk and they were great, they were very relaxed during the walk and also towards the unfamiliar humans which booked the walk.
In the fall we got our first four dogs, Rafiki, Alika, Kilio and Maisha from Hungary.
They grew up in the Villa near the Wildpark entrance. They had a room in the house and a nice outdoor enclosure. But they get older and the next two in our group are here. Kenai and Wapi our youngest wolves live know in the puppy room in the villa and the dogs are day and night outside and they love their hut to sleep in it and they love to bark with the neighbouring dogs.
In the next few month the enclosures will be build up in the Wildpark and the animals can move into their new homes (2 wolf enclosures, 1 dog enclosure and one raising enclosure).
Yes, we have now quite a nice troop! 15 animals from different places, different ages and with very different personalities. Each of them has a lot of positive characteristic features but also some not that positive ones. With that they keep us busy and provide changes in the work with them.
