Diary entry, 13.01.2010, Sebastian Vetter
These days our wolves have a lot of fun. The snow fell on the weekend and the ice, which is hanging all over the fences makes them really happy. They like the winter so much. They are hunting each other through the snow and ice-covered enclosure and are playing with pieces of ice, which they take down from the frozen fence.
However, although the winter brought some advantages for us humans as well – thanks to the full snow coverage and the freezing temperatures there is much less cleaning work to do and the landscape is really beautiful – however, most of the time there is more work to do than we saved. On the weekend I had to work a lot to get the grid, which I did with bricks in the testing enclosure, visible again. Furthermore, the airlocks and the tunnels, as well as the electric fence had to be kept free of snow and ice. But nevertheless Bea, Julia and me managed to enjoy some time with our small ones in the testing enclosure on Sunday before the guided tour.
Since Bea left on Sunday afternoon for the dog pups in Hungary and Rita just returned to Ernstbrunn on Monday afternoon, Monday was a rather calm day for the wolves. After my test they got something to eat and then their working day was over.
Yesterday there was more to do again. Due to Zsófi having been here the wolves had to work more. During a booked guided tour Geronimo and Yukon were allowed to show what they learned so far in the testing enclosure. After that Cherokee went on a beautiful winterwalk through the snowy forest with two visitors. Finally all the small ones worked on the touch screen.
Today it was a more calm day for our wolves again because Kurt, Friederike and Zsófi, the heads of the WSC, as well as Rita and Sebastian, the leading coworker of the game park had a lot to discuss. Of course the move down to the game park in spring has to be planned accurately.
Nevertheless our wolves can look forward to a full working day with Friederike and Zsófi tomorrow.
