We (the new trainers Andrea and Paul) thought we had arrived just in time with the worst winter weather coming to an end and the snow melting away but winter decided to strike again here in Ernstbrunn and it has been snowing the past two days with temperatures around -3 degrees today. Brrrr...
We have been here a week now and have been learning about all the training and testing the wolves go through and are having a good time. We will start training some of the wolves on Sunday and look forward to seeing how they react to us and how they progress in the training. The wolves are much shyer than the animals we have worked with so far so we hope they can relax while working with us. We will be training with protected contact so hopefully that will help us humans as well as the wolves feel safe and relaxed during the training!
We also spend time with the dog pups and are trying our best to raise them like wolves and not like pet dogs which can be hard after working as dog trainers and having our own pet dogs who we raised like dog dogs and not wolf dogs, but we are learning to exchange objects against food and to not tell them “No” too much.
