Kurt M. Kotrschal, PhD, born 1953, Associate Professor of Zoology at the University of Vienna Zoology Department, Director of the Konrad Lorenz Research Station (KLF) in Grünau/Austria since 1990. Numerous original research papers and a few books and book chapters. Council member of ASAB and of the EG e.V., associated editor of Acta Ethologica, Chairman Eurasier Club Austria, Council member Österreichischer Kynologenverband.
At the center of of present scientific interests are the interactions between ecological conditions and the evolution of social and cognitive mechanisms in mammals and birds. At the KLF, research in those directions is conducted in collaboration with a number of students and post-docs. This work expanded into the area of human-animal interactions. Present projects deal with cat-owner and dog-owner relationships and the effects of associating pre-school and school children with animals, including dogs.
