Aragorn is the "calmness" in wolf-shape. Our biggest and jet-black wolf is laid-back and with his orange-coloured eyes attentively observing the events in the park.

He is not the leader in the pack. Though he has a physical advantage over Kaspar and Shima, he's simply not  interested in  taking the demanding job of being an Alpha animal.

Aragorn is also very social and was the first one to regurgitate food to the new puppies.

... with conspecifics

He is not the leader in the pack. Though he has a physical advantage over Kaspar and Shima, he's simply not  interested in the demanding job of  an Alpha animal. This he gladly donated to Kaspar. The only important thing for him is always to get his share from the food.

Aragorn is also very social and was the first one to regurgitate food to the new puppies! Once he also protected a sick pack member (Cherokee, who meanwhile died).

During the mating season in spring 2010 and 2012 we could observe in the behaviour of Aragorn, that he's not always content with his submissive role in the pack: for on walks he started to lift his leg.

Though this is normal for dogs, with wolves it is reseved only for the alpha-animals. Since  Aragorn knew very well, that he never would be allowed to do so before the eyes of his "chief"  Kaspar – he took his chance during the walks. Sometimes he dared to mark in the enclosure, suspiciously eyed by  Kaspar.

... at learning and in interaction with us

Aragorn is well proceeding at the touchscreen and is a really  clever wolf.  Working in the test buildung or walking with visitors - he's indeed very good at that, but only if he is in the mood for it.  And he shows us with his strong character, when it doesn't want to work at all. In that case it's absolute for nothing, whatever we offer to him - sausage, meat, chicken ... – no way! He stays incorrupt.

... at the vet

Our family doctor, who's examinig the animals once a week, has to do a lot of high-end persuading with Aragorn. To overcome his mistrust against her, Aragorn is lured by treats to her - step by step. For who want's to rush his fences? Just hold your horses! That's Aragorn.

... as puppy

Little Aragorn sometimes showed attacks of rage, if we tried to take away an object stolen by him. That's now in the past. He developed into a real calm and self-conscious wolf. There is nearly nothing that upsets him. Yet he stayed very purposeful. And he's not a quitter, if he wants to achieve something.

With his foster-parents, i.e. with us, he always was and still is very endearing. He's the one who comes, just to be stroked. He watches out for what happens around him and after Tala he always was the second one who welcomed the visitors.

Going for a walk - probably this was his favourite activity. As soon as he saw the leash in our hand, he came running and stretched his head towards us to be collared.

Furthermore he and Shima always were the first ones, when it was about training or experiments. Very often he kicked at the door to open it - for he didn't want to wait for us any longer, he rather liked to handle it by himself.

Though he was not the alpha-animal in the pack he defended hs food against Kaspar . Once he had fetched something for him, no one could take ist away (and it's still the same). And after some time no one else tried it again. As a puppy, however,  he was the last one, who forced himself to accept the bottle!

There was only one problem: he loved to steal objects of importance for us (gloves, handies, buckets). Did this object to be very precious for him, too, we could get it back only in exchange for many, many fine treats.

He was and still is the only one out of the four, who also likes to steal things, which are not smelling like food ... once he defended a ball for four days!
